Manufacturer Provided Description

Designed to be a well-mannered, firm and able sailing vessel, the 3500 delivers performance. Her moderate beam and powerful ends, linked with either the deep fin or the optional beavertail keel provide excellent stability and sail-carrying ability. The long waterline and strong rig offer fast passages and a competitive edge, while the contoured cockpit seats, wide coamings and pedestal steering ensure a skipper's comfort both at sea and dockside. Her frame has been well-engineered and constructed to save weight, yet remain sound.

The hull is a balsa-cored sandwich structure with a vinylester barrier coat between NPG-ISO gelcoat and the hand-laid laminate. A cored deck and a bond-in-place grid structure produce a strength-to-weight ratio that makes her a high-performance, medium-displacement cruiser-racer. The pattern non-skid of her deck maximizes safety, comfort and function. Logical in layout, she has 2-foot wide side decks and inboard shrouds that afford easy passage both fore and aft, plus allow optimum sheeting angles for efficient upwind sailing.

Down below, she is fully fitted for cruising comfort with good stowage and generous accommodations. Her interior is highlighted by Tartan's trademark teak joinery and hand rubbed oil finish while being suitably complemented by the pleasing aesthetics of her fine fabric selections. The voluminous curves coupled with the clever use of angular bulkheads enable her nav station to be tucked aft while providing plenty of room to stand and move about.

Double Feed Bunk forward with dual Bureaus and under bunk drawers for ample storage. Salon has two single settee bunk with a great centerline drop leaf table.

Nav station is tucked in aft of the galley, so it becomes an additional working surface when needed. The galley has a double SS Sink, plenty of outboard storage cabinets as well as drawer and locker storage.

The head is accessed from the salon and has a seprate stall shower.

Aft cabin is to port aft of the head and has a double bunk athwartship for guests with bureau storage.

A very comfy layout for cruising couple or family. Just enough privacy and plenty of storage!

Accommodations

With the warmth and beauty of oiled teak woodwork throughout, the spacious interior provides a welcome retreat. The fully enclosed forward stateroom features a large v-berth, hanging locker, drawers and additional storage cabinetry. Louvered doors in the bulkhead between the salon and forward stateroom provide privacy when closed, light, spaciousness and increased ventilation when open. In the salon, plush, roomy settees to port and starboard flank a centerline drop-leaf table. Abundant storage cabinets and shelves add to the salon's utility while plenty of ports and hatches provide light and air. Aft and to starboard is the galley with pressure hot/cold water with two stainless sinks, two-burner propane stove with oven, and more than enough counter space for preparing large meals for the whole family. A spacious nav station fills a nook just aft of the galley and includes a port opening to the cockpit. The large head with shower is just aft of the port settee. In addition to a hanging locker and other storage, the aft stateroom features a large double berth and ports for light and air.

Design Comments by Tim Jackett

The Tartan 3500 deck is designed to maximize safety, comfort and functionality. Wide side decks and shrouds set inboard afford easy passage fore and aft and allow tight genoa sheeting angles for efficient upwind sailing. Contoured cockpit seats and wide coamings offer comfort both sailing and dockside. The Tartan 3500 is designed with respect given to traditional aesthetics and utilizes up to the minute hull, keel, rudder and rig developed to deliver top performance and comfort.
